Project details:
The originally free-standing silo building was built in 1912 on what is now the Deutsche Bahn Erlenmatt site. The concrete building of the Basler Lagerhausgesellschaft (BLG) was an important storage and transshipment centre for bulk goods such as grain and cocoa beans. The redesign of the hall on the mezzanine floor with its characteristic pyramid-shaped grain outlets on the ceiling as the centrepiece of the new Erlenmatt district shows the meeting point in the form of a restaurant. The layer above the actual silo cells houses bookable meeting rooms and affordable project and studio spaces. The then open roof space now houses Switzerland’s first boutique hostel.
Tasks from the hospitality and tourism industries involve design and handling in equal measure. Guests are welcomed in attractive surroundings, while staff and hosts work in the background.
