Project details:

St. Nicholas Church was first mentioned in 1376 and has had an eventful structural history, from dilapidation and partial renovations to extensions and new buildings, right up to the most recent fire on Silver Star Night 2021. After assessing the condition and scope of the measures following the fire, it was decided to completely renovate the interior with a view to opening up the space for future use, including for non-church events. In addition to the redesign of the entrance area and nave and a new lighting concept, the building operation of the bell system and lighting control system was simplified by means of building automation, and the entire electrical installation was expanded and brought up to date for the planned new uses. In order to facilitate future maintenance and the further development of the technology, great importance was attached to the accessibility of operating equipment (screed) and the collective routing of electrical cables.

Lighting and technical equipment are not a priority in religious buildings and their ancillary facilities, and are deliberately ‘suppressed’. However, technical development does not stop here either; despite everything, there is a need for lighting, audio, technical building systems and their operation.
